Article: “Going Green Through Metamorphosis

A special mention for ‘Aschenputtel’ in this article by Yasmin Chopin:

Aschenputtel is a charity find chest of drawers, battered and chipped, painted in patchy off white gloss with drips that were definitely not inspired by Jackson Pollock. Contrast the exterior with the interior where art, function and magic mix to provide a really useful piece of storage furniture.

My research into sustainable living finds me seeking out beautifully made furniture with strong green credentials. You cannot get much greener than this piece, which was sourced from Emmaus, a charity that helps the homeless. Once the two designers got the piece into their studio they set forth to make this ugly, ordinary item into something rather special. Owen Gildersleeve and Thomas Forsyth collaborated on this project which was presented at Designers Block, Interiors 2010, NEC Birmingham, UK in January…”
